About Lake Fenton and Its Surroudings

Lake Fenton is a state-owned natural spring-fed lake. It is 845 acres and approximately three miles end-to-end, with a maximum depth of 92 feet. The lake is in Fenton Charter Township, Genesee County, and is only a few minutes North of downtown Fenton. 

Fenton is a beautiful, charming, and prospering city with a small-town feel. Offering only an hour’s commute (or less) to major Southeast Michigan cities such as Flint, Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Lansing. 

Lake Fenton has a population of approximately 5,300 people with the majority of its population being homeowners and the average home value being $241, 700.

The Community

Living on Lake Fenton, residents and visitors appreciate the beautiful, calming sunsets, as well as the fishing, boating, and great neighbors. On any given summer’s day, there are likely to be a variety of watercraft cruising the lake including pontoons, speedboats, jet skis, etc. Keep in mind that the speed limit on Lake Fenton is 45 miles per hour, with it being slower in certain areas. Skipper Bud’s Marina is situated right on the lake and provides easy access to gas.  

DNR and Fish

There is a public DNR launch and the DNR helps maintain the lake. In fact, lucky for fishermen, every year the DNR adds 20,000-30,000 walleyes to maintain the supply of fish, making Lake Fenton an attraction to avid fishermen from all around. There is even an annual ice fishing tournament, hosted by the Fenton Moose Lodge.

Crazy Busy or Rather Relaxed

For the most part, Lake Fenton is a rather relaxed lake to enjoy. The main time of year that the lake gets busy is on Independence Day when there is always a large crowd that gathers to celebrate. Hundreds of boats cluster around what is known as “the point,” a small peninsula at the Southernmost part of the lake to enjoy music, drinks, and fireworks in the evening. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department monitors this fun time with marine patrol deputies, and two deputies on land.

Only a few minutes from Lake Fenton, is the beautiful and booming downtown Fenton, offering several rave-worthy restaurants including The Laundry, Crust, Rough Draught, The Fire Hall, and Fenton Hotel Tavern and Grille, among others. If you’re looking to grab food on the run, most of these eateries offer takeout, but you also have fast food options on the West side of Fenton including McDonald’s, Burger King, Arby’s, and Taco Bell. 

Downtown Fenton also offers shopping at several charming retail stores, with larger big-box stores such as Walmart, Target, and Home Depot being found only minutes away, on the West side of Fenton.

Parks and Other Recreational Facilities

If you’re looking for a public park on the lake, Mantawauka Park is situated right behind the Fenton Township Civic Community Center and offers a gazebo, picnic tables, playscape, and beach for swimming. Don’t forget to stop in at the Fenton Moose Lodge, right next door, and get a membership so you’re able to eat inside, out on their patio overlooking the lake, or dockside on your boat!

If you enjoy hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and other outdoor activities, check out some of the local parks such as Seven Lakes State Park (less than five miles away), Linden Park and Clover Beach County Park, Deer Run Soccer Park, and Thompson Road Regional Dog Park. 

Also available for local recreational activities is the Fenton Lakes Sportsman’s Club, Fenton Farms’ 18-hole golf course, Fenton Lanes’ bowling alley, Thompson Road Regional Dog Park, and Mt. Holly Ski & Snowboard Resort.
